Ages 6 - 12

In this hands-on six week program, kids will learn how scientists study nature by keeping their own scientific nature journals. Parents are welcome to attend, too. Dress for the weather!

Kids enjoy time to create with clay! We’ll have several different kinds on hand – from PlayDoh to Sculpty-type clays for older kids to enjoy. Younger kids increase their hand strength and dexterity by playing with PlayDoh and clay.

Join us all day to try your hand at making the tallest pumpkin candy tower. All supplies provided, the patron who constructs the tallest tower of the day that can stand for one minute will receive a prize!

Ages 8+
Join the ukulele 'ohana (family in Hawaiian)! In this beginning ukulele class, you will learn the basics of the uke, including: parts of the instrument, tuning, beginning chords, and simple songs to get you used to chording and strumming. Loaner ukuleles are available. Sponsored by the Music is the Foundation and taught by John French. Participants learn a brief history of the instrument and all the basics you need to get started playing right away! *Children must be at least eight years old and accompanied by an adult if under twelve.

Dress up and come downtown for some early Halloween fun! Friendly ghosts have been sighted in the library. Young children and their parents are invited to visit our "gently haunted Library" from 4pm – 6pm to collect treats from friendly costumed characters, before heading out to "Trick-or-Treat" on Bridge St from 5pm - 7pm!

Grab your candy bag, put on your favorite costume, and join us for Trick or Treat on the Square — an evening of treats, tricks and family fun in Downtown Lansing! Stroll historic Washington Square for a family-friendly trick-or-treat experience with neighborhood businesses. Collect free candy, join in games and activities, and enjoy plenty of spooky surprises along the way. The WKAR Education team will be there giving away free books and learning materials!

The Healing Feast is a non-profit sharing radical abundance with nourishing food and creative community for healing connections with self, others, the earth, and the sacred. This month’s theme is Ancestral Wisdom for Future Generations, featuring: The Sari Brown Band - music for embracing the mysteries and paradoxes of healing; Bryana Clover - decolonial guide, healer, and pilgrimage weaver; and Sundance Living Waters - community drum circle guide.
