Virtual participation could include running, walking, biking, swimming, or kayaking in a place near you. Consider a scavenger hunt of Max's favorite things such as the moon, the color orange, or MSU's mascot Sparty to honor the legacy of Max who passed away at the age of 6 due to complications from meningitis. The City of Grand Rapids proclaims Never Give Up Day This August 18, the City of Grand Rapids proudly joins community members celebrating Never Give Up Day and has proclaimed August 18, 2022, as Never Give Up Day. Never Give Up Day is a global celebration day focused on cultivating a mindset of determination. The mayoral proclamation signals the city's role in recognizing the importance of never giving up and invites its citizens to make this day a springboard for awareness-raising actions. The day provides a common platform for health and social care providing services, associations, NPO's, charities, sports teams, tourism and businesses in their efforts to establish a call to action. Many philanthropic causes have dedicated awareness months or days to hold their call to action or fundraising, but few can engage so much attention, touching so many hearts, and connecting so many people to the same degree as Never Give Up Day. The day not only applauds those who were able to transcend their failures, but also encourages those who go through a process of struggle or recovery. Never Give Up Day is a day we convince ourselves and the world that we are strong, determined and able to achieve our goals. Whether it is reaching your dream or fighting illness. Whether financial foes cause you stress and despair or relationship tension negatively impacts your emotional and physical health. Whether it is hard to get over someone you’ve lost or hard to do when you’ve been let down and left out. Whether today signals the beginning of a new battle or another milestone being celebrated, Never Give Up Day is a perfect day for acknowledging the resilience and determination of all those who (must) never give up

How-To Halloween is a family-friendly festival that celebrates creativity, imagination and the innovative spirit by showcasing an exhibit hall packed with theatrical displays, interactive games, unique vendors and amazing entertainment! We ‘Frankenstein’ together the best parts of a Maker Faire, Comic Con, Craft Show, Science Museum, Music Festival and Halloween Carnival to create monstrous fun for everyone. Our mission is to inspire kids and the ‘kids at heart’ to make something spooktacular for the holiday and get excited about the creative process as they explore the many hands-on activities, how-to sessions and immersive experiences. We have a spider-rific theme planned for our eight annual event! You can meet Spidey and his amazing friends from The League of Enchantment, and test your superpowers as you scale our 20ft tall climbing wall. Also included is the return of the Downtown Lansing Zombie Walk as the horde of undead invade the city and make their way from the Lansing Center to the Capitol for a frightfully fantastic photo op. And as always, there is trick-or-treating for the kids, costume contests with big prizes, and we’ll be supporting many local charities such as Saving Scales Reptile Rescue, Greater Lansing Food Bank and Make-A-Wish. So break out your best homemade costumes, bring your friends and be part of this un-boo-lievable event.
