Political campaigns turn their attention Monday from persuading voters to making sure their supporters turn out to vote Tuesday. Candidates spent the weekend campaigning.
Democratic candidate for governor Virg Bernero made a Sunday worship circuit of Detroit churches while Republican nominee Rock Snyder's campaign bus rolled from Traverse City to Grand Rapids. The GOP bus stops Monday will include Portland - home of Republican candidate for lieutenant governor Brian Calley - and will wind up in Snyder's hometown of Ann Arbor. Bernero will start the day in Detroit and end it in Lansing, where he serves as mayor.
Candidates for attorney general, secretary of state, the Michigan Supreme Court and legislative and congressional seats are also campaigning. At the same time, Republican and Democratic volunteers are knocking on doors and manning phone banks to remind supporters to get out and vote tomorrow. Elections officials predict slightly fewer than four million of Michigan's seven million registered voters will cast ballots.
