East Lansing, MI – NOTE: The following message was issued by the East Lansing Public Schools on 12/15/10:
We have been in communication with the East Lansing Police Department today regarding a domestic conflict that occurred off school property. During the conflict a weapon was displayed by a male and a threat was made to a female. The female has two children in the East Lansing Public Schools - one at Pinecrest and one at Whitehills. As a precaution, both Pinecrest and Whitehills - per directive from the East Lansing Police Department - have been in a lockdown (inside, and in classrooms) for a period of time this morning, and still are in lockdown.
There is a strong police presence at both Whitehills and Pinecrest. The police department believes these sites are secure. Minutes ago we received information from the East Lansing Police Department that it appears the suspect is now traveling and moving toward the metropolitan Detroit area.
If you would like to pick up your children at Pinecrest or Whitehills, or at any of our schools please feel free to do so. If you choose to do so, please check in at the school office and anticipate you may need to wait in line to assure that children are being released to parents or guardians. Calm and reason will help. Thank you.
