ANN ARBOR, MI –
Guinness World Records has splashed cold water on an attendance record set during Michigan and Michigan State's hockey game at Michigan Stadium.
The Detroit Free Press says attendance at "The Big Chill at the Big House" on Saturday in Ann Arbor set a world record - but will be officially recorded much smaller than anticipated.
Guinness certified the crowd at 85,451 people, rather than the announced attendance of 113,411. The previous mark for a hockey game was 77,803 at this year's world championship in Germany.
Guinness officials tell the Free Press they are "still waiting to review ticket counts," but their count "should be the final number."
U-M hockey spokesman Matt Trevor said Michigan includes people working at the game in their attendance, but Guinness does not.
