Most people don't travel to Venice and think of sea monsters, but most people, aren't novelist Christopher Moore. Set against the backdrop of Venice, Moore’s latest novel blends together Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice" and "Othello" with Poe’s "The Cask of Amontillado." Throw in a people eating sea monster, humor and some bawdy prose and you have Moore’s "The Serpent of Venice".The book is a sequel the novel "Fool", which retells King Lear from the perspective of the witty and lewd court jester, Pocket.
His other books include "Lamb", the story of Jesus from the perspective of his childhood friend Biff; a trilogy of vampire books; and "A Dirty Job", which follows a newly employed merchant of death.
Moore tells Current State's Emanuele Berry that he's tried to write more serious stories, but he doesn't get very far in before he starts to joke about things.
