EAST LANSING, MI – Author Steve Lopez will be in East Lansing Sunday and Monday to talk about his book "The Soloist". The book is the selected title for this year's "One Book, One Community" program, with East Lansing residents encouraged to join incoming Michigan State University freshmen in reading and discussion.

Lopez began writing about Nathaniel Anthony Ayers in his Los Angeles Times column after a chance meeting with the homeless musician. Ayers' life had spiraled down to LA's Skid Row from a promising start at the Juilliard School. The columns Lopez wrote later became the book, and a movie of the same title.

WKAR's Scott Pohl talked with Lopez about how Nathaniel Ayers is doing, and the role of classical music in his life.
