LANSING, MI – Unemployment remained stable across the state in July. That's according to a breakdown of the numbers released Thursday by the state Department of Energy, Labor, and Economic Growth.

AUDIO:
Michigan's unemployment rate was largely unchanged from June to July - it dipped very slightly to 15%. The same held true when the numbers were broken down by regions.

However, a slight bump upward nudged Detroit's unemployment rate to a record-setting 28.9%. Typically, unemployment goes up in July as automakers shut down factories and lay off workers while they retool for the new model year. The state Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth says that wasn't true this year because so many autoworkers were already laid off.
