Cooley Law School starts on new Florida campus

By AP

LANSING, MI –

Michigan-based Thomas M. Cooley Law School is starting work on a new out-of-state campus in Florida.

School officials held a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday at the site of the new Tampa Bay campus in Riverview, Fla., where classes will begin in 2012.

Cooley Law School has its main campus in Lansing, Mich. It also has Michigan campuses in Auburn Hills, Grand Rapids and Ann Arbor.

The law school is adding the new campus because Florida represents Cooley's largest alumni base outside Michigan, with nearly 900 graduates. Five percent of its current students hail from Florida.

The new campus will begin offering evening classes in May and morning classes next September. It will finish beefing up its class offerings in January 2013.
