Michigan governor says he's lost over 6 pounds

By AP

LANSING, MI –

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder is more than halfway toward his goal to lose 10 pounds by the end of the year.

The Republican governor pointed to himself as part of the problem when he talked Sept. 14 about how Michigan needs to become a healthier state.

The 5-foot-11 governor weighed 194 pounds in his clothes, giving him a body mass index measurement of 26.8, or overweight. He weighed 192 at his physical that week.

Snyder announced Monday on Twitter and Facebook that he has lost over 6 pounds so far, dropping to 185.8 pounds. His body mass index is now 26.

He tweets: "Still in the overweight range, but making good progress."

Dealing with Michigan's obesity problem is a priority for Snyder. Michigan ranks 8th nationally among the fattest states.
