Edible Plants with Dr. Peter Carrington

Edible Plants with Dr. Peter Carrington
Join Peter Carrington, PhD at the East Lansing Public Library for an engaging introductory workshop about the edible wild plants of mid-Michigan. Many varieties of wild plants make their home in mid-Michigan, some of which are safe and nutritious to eat while others pose a toxic risk to people or pets. This workshop will teach us the basics about some of these plants and how we might identify them.
Peter has served as the curator of the WJ Beal Botantical Garden at MSU, where he specialized in edible and toxic plants for both people and animals. He is passionate about education, and he has spent over thirty-five years sharing his passion for plants and the natural world with others as an instructor at Lansing Community College, where he taught courses about edible wild plants, toxic wild plants, and wilderness survival techniques. He serves as a consultant to the regional poison control central, advises several zoos concerning their plantings, and teaches veterinary students about toxic plants that may pose a risk to animals.
