Penny Avery and Patty Rockafellow are the dynamic duo of summer reading fun! With a whirlwind of stories, tunes, and hands-on crafts, they're ready to take your kids on a dino-mite adventure through time, featuring Mary Anning, the trailblazing lady of fossils. Children will create their own plaster dinosaur and a dazzling suncatcher to take home!

All Ages
Children (adults too!) love to use toys, models, and figures to create imaginary scenes. Award-winning video producer Kevin Epling hosts this fun experience in small scale photography. Kids and adults can bring their toys and models (3”-7” size works best!), and Kevin will have "sets” in place for them to work with as they take photos!

The Packard Farmers Market returns for the 2026 season at the historic Packard Proving Grounds, bringing together local farmers, artisans, bakers, makers, and small businesses in a one-of-a-kind setting where history and community meet.

Formerly known as the Shelby Farmers Market, the newly rebranded Packard Farmers Market reflects its deep connection to the Packard Proving Grounds and its mission to support the preservation of this iconic historic site. The market runs Saturdays from May 16 through October 10, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., on the expansive front lawn of the Packard Proving Grounds Historic Site.

Each week, the market is arranged in neat rows across the lawn, offering a relaxed, walkable shopping experience. Vendors may park directly next to their booths, and the grass setting provides a cooler summer atmosphere ideal for tent setups. Well-behaved dogs on leashes are welcome. The market is supported by Packard Proving Grounds volunteers and local high school students earning community service hours.

The Packard Farmers Market is open on Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends and will be closed Saturday, July 4. Proceeds from the market directly benefit the ongoing restoration and preservation of the Packard Proving Grounds Historic Site, owned and operated by the Packard Motor Car Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Celebrate the beauty and diversity of one of the world’s most captivating plant families during this special two‑day orchid event at Hidden Lake Gardens. Visitors are invited to explore stunning orchids from around the globe, showcased on display in our Tropical Dome, where dramatic blooms and delicate miniatures highlight the remarkable variety of this plant group.

In addition to the displays, New World Orchid owner and orchid expert, Dr. Kristen Ulthus, will be stationed in the Conservatory, offering a selection of orchids for sale and sharing her expertise. Guests are encouraged to stop by with questions about orchid growing, care, and selecting the right plant for their home.

Ages 0 - 2
We’ll read a story, sing and rhyme together, do a finger play, and have fun while learning and playing. We’ll end with time for caregivers to socialize and babies to play and interact with each other. Best for babies and toddlers age 2 & younger.
