An Ingham County Sheriff's Office detective will devote about half their work week towards assisting the Lansing Police Department to reduce instances of gun-related crime.

The Ingham County Sheriff’s Office is bolstering its partnership with the Lansing Police Department to fight violent crime.

Ingham County and the city of Lansing have worked together on the region’s Violent Crime Initiative for several years.

Now, Sheriff Scott Wriggelsworth says one of the county’s detectives will dedicate about half their work week towards the partnership.

The sheriff will also assign a uniformed patrol deputy to the team as needed.

Wriggelsworth says investigations related to gun-related crimesoftentake a lot of manpower.

“To go out and effect arrests on some of these individuals and get them and the guns off the street, it takes people,” Wriggelsworth says.  “So, the more people oftentimes we can throw at the problem, the better off we’re going to be.”

Wriggelsworth says the city and county will assess their efforts throughout the summer and allocate resources accordingly.
