Former MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine Dean William Strampel listens to arguments about new evidence against him in Judge Joyce Draganchuk's courtroom.

Ingham County Circuit Judge Joyce Draganchuk will allow some new testimony when former MSU Osteopathic Medicine Dean William Strampel is tried for felony misconduct and misdemeanor sexual assault.

While allowing some new testimony against Strampel to proceed, Judge Dragonchuk did reject others proposed by the state. Andrea Bitely, Director of Communications for Attorney General Bill Schuette, says the judge ruled correctly. Bitely says Draganchuk "did not dismiss the charges we had filed against him several months ago, and she also admitted evidence of past acts.”

John Dakmak, Strampel’s attorney, responded that “we know that they’re going to try to throw everything they can at us, and we’re going to knock it all back the best we can.

As Dean, Strampel was Larry Nassar’s boss while Nassar assaulted hundreds of patients at MSU. The judge was adamant that Strampel’s trial not be tainted by his supervision of Larry Nassar, but Andrea Bitely of the Attorney General’s office says that will be difficult.

The next step in strategizing Strampel’s prosecution may be up to incoming Attorney General Dana Nessel. There’s no court date set for Strampel’s next appearance.
