You might know of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which provides benefits to low income individuals and families. But did you know about SNAP-Ed? It involves a series of different food education and cooking classes for adults and youth. For Neighbors in Action we speak with the people running these programs in mid-Michigan.
Individuals and families struggling to make ends meet can qualify for governmental aid through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). But food stamps alone aren’t really enough. That’s where SNAP-Ed comes in.
The goal of SNAP-Ed is to improve the likelihood that persons eligible for SNAP will make healthy choices within a limited budget and choose active lifestyles.
Current State learns about how they do that in mid-Michigan with SNAP-Ed nutrition program instructor Joe Hammontree and supervising educator Annette Sokolnicki.
