The Michigan State Board of Education is poised to make a controversial vote today. For months, the board has been grappling with creating a set of guidelines that would protect the rights and safety of transgender students. The document would address a number of issues, from restroom access to counseling services.
Over the summer, officials have gathered some 13,000 public comments on its way towards drafting a series of voluntary actions for local school districts.
Current State talks with Nathan Triplett, the former mayor of East Lansing now the policy and political action director for the LGBTQ advocacy group Equality Michigan, and Douglas Levesque, founder and director of the Bible Nation Society based in Owosso.
