Q: How can I create book love buzz?

A: Become a book influencer. Sharing your excitement around books can transform a small spark of interest into a buzz of electricity.

3.48 billion people use social media around the world. Incredible, I know. Influencers use social media to create a buzz around specific topics or a distinct niche to connect with others. Creating a ‘book love buzz’ does not mean it’s necessary to access social media. However, understanding how influencers promote engagement might be key in fostering a continued interest in literature.

Influencers connect around the same topic often. Talk about books daily. Sharing a quick synopsis of new releases, old favorites, and award winners is a great way to build continued interest. Remember to be short, concise and enthusiastic.

Be an expert in the varied choices books offer. There’s no way to read all the books. Believe me I’ve tried but recognizing and highlighting the great variety found in book genres is an easy way to become an expert. From graphic novels, nonfiction titles, suspense and mystery to fantastical world builders and historical fiction, there is a book for every child.

Use comparisons. Algorithms connect people to content based on their interests and book influencers can do the same. Whether it’s a picture book, middle grade, young adult or early reader, every book has comparatives. Similar to ‘if you liked that, you’ll love this’, showcase books connecting by the same themes, topics, authors, illustrators and settings.

I’d love to hear how you’re influencing the readers in your life with book love!
