Reporter Carol Cain (L) rides is a driverless car (the man in the driver's seat is not controlling the vehicle).

What’s it like to take your first ride in a self-driving car? Detroit reporter Carol Cain recalls her recent white knuckle maiden voyage in a car driven by a computer.

Stories about self-driving cars get one to wondering. Is this really for me? What if I prefer the sense of control one gets from actually steering and braking?

Detroit reporter Carol Cain squared off with those fears last week when she took her maiden voyage in a self-driving Chrysler 300 in suburban Detroit. Her story with the headline “Self-driving seems great until you get in the car” appeared in last Sunday’s Detroit Free Press.

Current State talks with Carol Cain about the experience.
