Music legend Gunther Schuller died this week. MSU Director of Orchestras Kevin Noe studied under Schuller and offers this remembrance.
Conductor, composer and author Gunther Schuller died this week at the age of 89. Among his many accomplishments, he was a proponent of the idea of a musical “third stream” that blurred the lines between jazz, classical, and other kinds of music.
Current State's Melissa Benmark talks with MSU Director of Orchestras Kevin Noe, who studied with Gunther Schuller for a summer at the Schweitzer Institute of Music in Sand Point, Idaho in the early 1990s.
