The first ever United States Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and youth was released last week. With a grade of D- for overall physical activity there is plenty of room for improvement. The report also focuses on the behavioral and environmental influences which shape a child's physical activity habits.Joey Eisenmann is an assistant professor of sports and cardiovascular nutrition in Michigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine. He served on the committee that commissioned the report and he helps Current State break down the grades.
Eisenmann says Canadians have been issuing a similar report card for more than five years. There's a global summit coming up in Toronto on the physical activity and health of children, with reports also coming out from other countries.
