Lansing Mayor Andy Schor delivered his second State of the City Wednesday night to hundreds of people at the Riverwalk Theatre. He touted economic partnerships and investments made in the city over the past year and ways the mayor’s office is using data to govern smarter. Schor also laid out his tailored vision for the city. He said he wants to play to Lansing’s strengths as part of a new marketing campaign to attract and keep people here.
“We’re not going to have 30 acres of farm in the city of Lansing, but we’re also not going to have a long commute," said Mayor Schor. "We know that we have certain people that love city living. And that they want walkability, they want businesses, they want parks. You know, these are all the things they want, that we are providing and they’re proud to have that."

In addition to his Lansing 2030 vision, Mayor Schor says he plans to continue to invest in infrastructure and housing around the city. And, he wants to prioritize spending money on art. Because the kind of people he hopes to attract to live and work in Lansing "expect cultural experiences."
The centerpiece of the address was a new marketing campaign to build hometown pride. Schor said it was inspired by what he heard from residents while campaigning and during his first year as mayor.
“When I campaigned when I knocked doors a lot of what I heard was ‘I’m proud to be in Lansing. I want you to share how proud we are to be the capital city. We’ve got healthcare, we’ve got IT, we’ve got the state government. We’ve got so many great things and I’m proud of that and I want you to share that'," said Mayor Schor.
